Golfing for a Good Cause
Another unsettled week of weather has not put us off playing our golf here at ROWGC. Club Captain Neville Ovens has once again been doing some great work, this time for his chosen charities for this year. The beneficiaries of Neville's Captain's Charity Choice Event were the RNLI and St Michael's Hospice. With your help, Neville managed to raise over £2,000 for these great charities with two events on Saturday at the club. In the morning, Neville put on a Singles Stableford and then in the afternoon a fun Texas Scramble with many great prizes on offer. All entry fees were donated to charity, along with auctions and the fantastic raffle table. Having spoken to Neville since the weekend, he would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that was involved in making the day such a success. Also, a special thanks to everyone that donated clothes to the St Michael's Hospice charity. Pictured below is Neville on Sunday morning with representatives picking up the donations.
On to the results, and the day really did reveal some of the very best this year. Michael Davis topped the table with a quite unbelievable 48 points, followed by a concession of THSG pupils; I'm very pleased to say. They are Ashley Sayer (42 points), pictured, with his newly fitted custom fitted Titleist D2 driver and golf lesson; Kevin D'Lonra (42 points) after a golf lesson and custom fitting for a new shaft in his driver; Wendy Harris (42 points) who gave quite a brilliant performance after two lessons; and Richard Eslcolme (41 points) after one lesson just two weeks ago.

Rory Who? Chick Records Ace On Hardest Par 3!
We have been lucky enough to experience two holes in one in the space of a week here at ROWGC. Graham Chick is the latest to record the impressive accolade! All this on what I call our toughest Par 3, the 9th Hole. Graham hit a sweetly-struck driver with his Titleist golf ball which took a couple of hops up the bank before disappearing, to his amazement. All this on a hole that strikes fear into most members (including me!).
|I managed to get this snap of Graham on the Seniors Away Day held at The Monmouthshire GC. Sadly, the day was cancelled after 9 holes due to the bad weather. I was lucky enough to get 9 holes in before the greens flooded. I would like to say a big thank you to all the Seniors for making me feel so welcome on the day and a very special thank you to Cecil Wheatstone for inviting me on the day. |
It was a pleasure to play with the Seniors Captain and fellow Senior Richard Topping and it was also great to see Cecil play so well through the 9 holes with a very impressive 22 points. You may remember Cecil was one of the stars of the show when I held my 10 Yard Challenge and, I must say, he was using his newly custom fitted Driver to great effect.
| ||Junior Team Continue Their Winning Ways |
On Tuesday our Juniors, headed by team manager Tony Howells, continued with their winning ways by beating local rivals South Herefordshire GC. Tony fielded his strongest 6 with Captain Harry Butler leading the way.
Playing away, the team really did us proud with a 2-1 win that sees them top the table. The section meets every Thursday for either coaching with me or a 9 hole competition to give them the edge that they clearly have this season. This win sees them continue their winning streak and really does show they are a force to be reckoned with!
News On The Academy Membership
This week we have taken on our very first Junior Academy Members to the Golf Club. This new grade of membership has been designed to help us integrate Juniors from an early age into the club. They have their own tees (pink-purple in colour), and have their own special card that can be found in the golf shop. The membership is just £60; if you would like any further information please don't hesitate to get in contact with me by clicking here.
This week we have a very special announcement to make. For this grade of membership there will be special Academy Championships. The Championships will be held over four separate rounds with the best two rounds being added together to formulate the best 36 holes. The Academy Members will all have a special Academy Handicap which will be taken into consideration on a stableford format. Exciting times ahead for the club and for the juniors at ROWGC! More details will follow - watch this space!

There have been 16 different winners of the last 17 Majors. That is an amazing statistic that shows you just how open the Major championship fields have been. There is, despite all the measures of world #1, no clear golfer who stands out as we go into each Major.
Despite all the competition and noise, there is however one clear winner when it comes to Golf Balls used at Majors. Time after time, the Titleist Pro V Golf Ball walks away with the title of ‘Most Played Golf Ball’.
In a time of uncertainty, it is comforting be so certain about your choice of Golf Ball.
Remember, in our shop, you can buy a Dozen Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x for £34.99. That’s a saving of over £15.
